Academics

Dorado Pride - The mission of Canyon del Oro High School is to provide diverse educational opportunities that empower students to become innovative, knowledgeable, and compassionate members of humanity. Program options range from special education and general courses to advanced, accelerated, honors, AP and IB courses.  Additionally, CDO offers a full complement of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, Fine Arts, Modern Languages, Athletics, and  Clubs for our students.  We are proud of our opportunities to allow students to be career or college bound after high school.

2017 Academic Decathlon National Finals 4th place in Division 1 and 5th place overall
2016 Odyssey of the Mind Sophomore Team set a record for most Rantra Fusca Awards in one tournament
2016 Odyssey of the Mind Senior Team won the State Tournament and qualified for the World Tournament 2016 Dr. Carolyn Zeiher was named Circle-K Teacher of the Year
2013, 2012, and 2011 Newsweek Magazine rated CDO in the top 5% of public high schools
2013 and 2012 The Washington Post recognized  CDO in "The High School Challenge"
The CDO Preschool is the first Career and Technical Education (CTE) preschool to receive a five-star rating statewide.

Class of 2017

 

Canyon del Oro High School 2017 graduates are among the best and brightest in the nation. They have been accepted to 140 different colleges, universities, military and vocational schools all across the country. Approximately 84% of this year’s class has chosen to continue their education beyond high school. 46% will be continuing at a four-year institution and 38% will be continuing at a 2-year institution.

Scholarship highlights for the Class of 2017 include:  6 National Merit Commended students,  1 United States Naval Academy appointment,  1 Baird Scholar,  2 QuestBridge Scholarship Finalists,  21 Athletic Scholarships,  6 Rotary Scholarships,  2 Elks Most Valuable Students Awards,  4 Fine Arts Scholarships  

In addition, we have 21 students electing to enter the military after graduation.  

About our students and staff

  • Our school is comprised of 1,620 students, 83 certified teachers, four counselors, four administrators and various support staff. 
  • Approximately 29% of our students are open enrolled from other schools. 
  • 12.4% of CDO students qualify for Special Education Services and 12.4% are eligible for Gifted/Reach Services.
  • CDO has approximately 26% of students receiving free and reduced lunch. 
  • Ethnic breakdown of students: Asian 4 %, Black 3 %, Caucasian 56 %, Hispanic 35 %,  and Native American 2 %
